Hunting for a new home during the holidays can have many hidden advantages for buyers, despite conventional wisdom.
While there is less inventory to choose from in the fall, house hunting in December and February also means there is less competition with other buyers out there. Sellers might also be willing to strike a better deal for potential home owners.
Home buyers can take advantage of sellers who are eager to sell. The end of the year is a great time to look above your price range and negotiate for a lower price, said Javier Serrano, president of Spain Opportunities
“Sellers want to clear inventory before the spring and will be open to price adjustments to make the sale,” he said.
Consumers can find the best prices after Christmas because most home owners do not want to wait until the winter months when the bulk of potential buyers disappear, Serrano said.
Seeing a home during the winter months shows both the house and the neighborhood in its “true colors,” he said.

Iceland is once again ranked the most peaceful peaceful country in the world, followed by Denmark and New Zealand. Syria has seen the biggest drop in margin, falling over 30 places to be placed at 147th. The UK has fallen three places to 29th position, meaning it is the first year the UK placement has not risen in the list.

New UAE mortgage rule will kick in from December 1
Mortgage pre-approval letters issued by banks in the UAE with home finance value of 85% will not be valid from December 1 onward.
The pre-approved mortgage letter issued this month will not be valid after December 1,” a senior mortgage consultant with a top local bank said on conditions of anonymity.

The validity of mortgage pre-approval letters varies from bank to bank, but generally they are valid for 45 to 60 days from the date of issuance.
The UAE Central Bank issued new mortgage lending regulation late last month, which allows banks to provide loans of up to 80 per cent of the property value to Emiratis and 75 per cent to expatriates.
The new rules will be enforced one month after they are published in the official gazette.
Moreover, home buyers will no longer be allowed to seek personal loans or use their credit cards to meet their downpayment requirements, the Central Bank said.
UAE Central Bank Governor Sultan Nasser Al Suwaidi has said that the new limits on mortgage loans would help the banking sector.
